  • PROJECT NAME 1: Shikaka Community Water Project
    TIME : 4th – 26th February 2009 (3 weeks)
    LOCATION OF THE CAMP : Butere Mumias District Western.
    THE COMMUNITY : Luhya

  • MAIN CAMP ACTIVITIES
    Drilling boreholes.
    Teaching English and foreign languages in a nearby primary school.
  • WORKING HOURS
    Usually Monday to Friday 6 hours a day, all other time is free.
  • ACCOMMODATION
    Volunteer will live within a host family of project coordinators of the group. There is a kitchen where you will cook your meals together and also spent free time but volunteers will cook their own meals. Train yourself to cook something from your own countries.

    NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS: 10
  • MAIN CAMP ACTIVITIES
    Assist in teaching computer to disabled people.
    Teaching various skills and games
    Support disabled children and adults.
    Mobilize the community to develop positive attitudes towards the less able in disabled people.
    Identity all cases of disability in the community and establish their needs.
    Promote self-acceptance and motivation among persons with disability.
    Provide a forum for expression.
    Initiate and promote the existing community based income generating activities at the nearest Market centers for disabled persons.
    Carry out HIV/AIDS awareness in the Disability fraternity.

    Planting of trees and transfer of seedlings.
    Conservation of water Catchment areas through afforestation and reafforestation
    Campaigns against violation of Human right especially the girl child and women on female Genital Multilation FGM and forced Marriages at a young age.

    Counseling.
    Teaching informal and formal education.
    Volunteer will provide basic education.
    Train vulnerable kids in the community on the harmful effects of (FGM) Female Genital. Multination.
    To establish a healthy environment that gives children joy for their daily lives.

    English will be the official language of the camp.

  • MAIN CAMP ACTIVITIES
    Teaching basic education to an informal in primary school.
    Volunteer will assist in Games and sports
    Creative arts
    Games for health and fun.
  • WORKING HOURS
    Usually Monday to Friday 6 hours a day, all other time is free.The volunteers will organize workshops with children - music, intercultural events, and sporting events. The handicapped children are those whom have mental problem.

    LOCATION OF THE CAMP : In the jungle of Maasai Mara near Tanzania

  • PROJECT TITLE : Achieving impact through community health.
    NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS: 10
  • MAIN CAMP ACTIVITIES
    Assist in improving access, basic health care for the poor rural Maasai community.
    Providing health Education on prevention and treating of illness, including Malaria, TB, among other diseases.
    To provide medical service to patients treating patients and give drugs to patients in the community.
    Educating people/creating awareness of malaria.
  • WORKING HOURS
    Usually Monday to Friday 6 hours a day, all other time is free.
  • Volunteer personal characteristics relevant to this project:
    Good mental ability, and aptitude to think logical, keen alert and quick interpretation, and warm personality, patient commitment to serve mankind compassionate and love for life, Constant updating of knowledge, Ability to interact and work with others, good communication skills, stamina and technical expertise
    Volunteer with skills in relation to these project are welcome e.g. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, medical technology, radiography and among others are required in these project.

    Volunteers will be living in small tent, pit latrines and local bathrooms will be used, no electricity and no internet

    TIME : July 5th – 26th 2009(3 weeks)
    LOCATION OF THE CAMP : Narok Town Districts, Rift Valley Province.
    THE COMMUNITY : Maasai.

    PROJECT TITLE : OVS care and support.
    NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS :
  • MAIN CAMP ACTIVITIES :Offer parental counseling to enable destitute children embrace a positive attitude toward life.
    Visiting orphans in various homes and schools.
    Counseling.
    Fundraising to the orphans on their needs. E.g. Clothes, shoes, bags books blankets, school uniform food, good shelter and medical care.
    Computer to keep over information.
    Funds to employ staffs to cater for orphan’s project.
  • WORKING HOURS
    Usually Monday to Friday 6 hours a day, all other time is free.
  • ACCOMMODATION
    Use of boarding school facility at a local primary school, local bathroom. Cooking will be done in turns by volunteers themselves. Train yourself to cook something simple from your country.

  • EXCURSION OFFER
    This will provide opportunities for international volunteers to learn/ enjoy local life and exchange with local people, making a while experience life through the eyes of the locals and exploring the great seven wonders of Maasai Mara National Game Reserve. Volunteers will enjoy the beautiful savannah. Numerous plains games including antelopes, wild beasts, Zebras, Maasai giraffes can be seen as well as scavengers like hyena and vulture. We will ask volunteers to participate to the extra cost entrance fee for the national Park and bus ticket.

    VOLUNTEERING -is a great chance for young people to exchange experience and learn more about others, Culture, social and political living conditions.
    GENERAL QUALIFICATION.
    1. Best motivation for the volunteer work – (Special Good skills and power are not necessary)
    2. Responsibility to keep rules of (GVDA and partner organization in community and co-operative to run the work camps.)
    3. Best effort to understand and respect cultures (both of the host community and other volunteers)

    5. To adapt and enjoy simple conditions (of the living such as food and accommodation.)
    6. Though it will be very fun and dramatic time for you, if your motivation is only for enjoying holidays, please don’t apply and do just travel. If it is more for voluntary services to make a better world and friendship with local people and other volunteers, you are super welcome!!
